Stadt Offenburg
Offenburg is located about 20 kilometers southeast of Strasbourg and 11 kilometers from Appenweier. It is the district capital and largest city in the Ortenau district. According to the state development plan, Offenburg has been a major center within the Southern Upper Rhine region since 1996. Many trade fairs take place here. Offenburg is also a good place for shopping.
city of Strasbourg
Strasbourg is located in the picturesque Alsace region, a region in the east of France on the border with Germany. The city is the capital and thus the seat of the regional council and regional prefect of the Grand Est region, as well as the seat of the prefecture of the Bas-Rhin department. Strasbourg is the seat of numerous European institutions, including the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, the European Court of Human Rights, the European Ombudsman and the Eurocorps. Because of this, Strasbourg sees itself as the "capital of Europe". Parts of the city center, the medieval old town on the Grande-île and the new town, are UNESCO World Heritage sites under the title Strasbourg: from the Grande-Île to the new town, a European urban scene.
city of Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe is located about 70 km from Appenweier and is the second largest city in the state of Baden-Württemberg. It is the administrative seat of the Karlsruhe administrative district and the Karlsruhe district and is itself an urban district (a district-free city). The city is the main center for the Middle Upper Rhine region and parts of the Southern Palatinate. Karlsruhe has been the seat of the Federal Court of Justice and the Federal Prosecutor General at the Federal Court of Justice since 1950 and of the Federal Constitutional Court since 1951, which is why the city is called the "Residence of the Law".
